What is a system?
One of the most overused word's in today's business environment is that of a SYSTEM. Everyone has created the next great system. You know, the system that is going to put ten million dollars into your pocket before you wake up tomorrow or the one that will have members of the opposite sex knocking on your door. The truth is that very few can even define a system. And even fewer think in terms of systems. The ability to think systemically is a learned one. But that is a topic for another intel piece. The point here is to provide a definition of a system. Simply put, a system "is a set of objects and processes that work together to perform a common goal". Three key pieces of information are included in that statement: 1) Objects - a person or thing that exists either in conceptual or tangible form; think of an object as a noun. 2) Processes - a process can be described as a verb or an action that is performed by an object. 3) Goal - objects and processes work together to perform a common goal(s) or else there is no system
